Our four-acre managed wild blueberry planting was established a few years after we purchased our farm property in 1976. The farm is located in the highlands of Hastings County in eastern Ontario near the town of Bancroft. Soils in the area are naturally suited for the growth of native blueberry plants. Our business focus has always been to provide fruit with the best possible flavour and quality for local customers and to serve them with friendliness and efficiency.Over the years we have learned how to manage the native blueberry plants to achieve good yields of delicious berries each summer. A very important task is controlling spring frosts that might damage our crop. The steady application of water on frosty nights protects tender blossoms to ensure that the blooms develop into delicious berries. If needed, water is also provided to the plants during the summer in years when rainfall is not sufficient.Part of the fruit is sold to customers who visit the farm to pick their own berries. Pre-picked wild blueberries can be purchased at our farm sales booth and also from our stall at the nearby Maynooth Farmers' Market beginning in late July and throughout the month of August. We encourage pickers to bring low stools to enable them to sit comfortably while picking, as the average height of our lowbush blueberry plants is about 15 inches. Our planting provides a convenient and economical way for local residents and visitors to access wild blueberries.
