The Crossing Farm strattles the Battle River. Don and Eileen Blumhagen own in Flagstaff County and partners Chris and Jennifer Blumhagen own on the Paintearth side. Don's farm was homesteaded by his grandfather John in 1911 and has remained Blumhagen ever since.
The farm rests on a unique corner of the river and comprises seven miles of river bank and both valley topside and basin land which give outstanding views that stretch for miles.
Don is a third generation farmer. Several years ago Don started researching self sustaining methods of farming including Allan Savory's Holistic Management and Rudolf Steiner's Biodynamics. His son Chris, the fourth generation, while pursuing his MBA, studied the viability of organic sustainability. Together they performed various experiments to differing methodologies and produced enough positive results to pursue full organic certification in 2008.
Utilizing biodynamic and holistic management techniques The Crossing has been able to produce highly valued products that are repeatedly preferred by customers. Organic production is in high demand given the unstoppable consumer drive in the US and growing in Canada. The Crossing is poised and flexible enough to meet this growing demand and is enjoying the healthy and sustainable ride!
