Black currants (Ribes nigrum) have been grown for their fruit since the 16 th century in France. The black currant has been praised for its medicinal properties.
Currants are highly touted for neutraceutical properties. They are 5 times higher in Vitamin C content than oranges! 2 to 3 times as much potassium as other fruit and 30 - 40 types of bioflavinoids. Consumption of black currant has shown to benefit the heart and circulatory system, kidney function, liver function and the digestive system.... And they still taste great!
The variety planted on our farm is Titania. It is a Polish variety that has excellent size, colour and flavour.
We currently have 9 acres cultivated and will continue to increase production.
We also keep individually frozen currants on hand all winter ideally used for jams, jellies and baking. Available in 2 kg and 10 kg pails. Also available our own Black Currant Jam and Red Currant Jelly.
