Our family has been growing fruit and vegetables in the Greater Hamilton region for over 6 generations. For four of those generations we were known as Maple Ave. "market gardeners" farming 34 acres in Burlington. Peter and Joan moved the family operation to Ancaster in 1973 and started the pick your own business. Son Joe after graduating from the University of Guelph gradually took over the management, focusing on strawberries and pumpkins. Today more emphasis is being placed on using sustainable production systems, growing more of our own produce and buying local.We grow insecticide and fungicide free fruit and vegetables! How is this possible? Soil and plant nutrition are the key. We use compost, organic fertilizers and biostimulants to produce the highest nutrient quality fruit and vegetables!Biocontrols such as garlic, fish emulsion and seaweed derived products are used to fend off harmful pests and diseases in our strawberries. Bacillus thuringienesis is a naturally occuring, spore forming bacterium that also releases proteins that can infect certain types of insects. We apply this in our raspberry patch to control fruit worm.Come and experience the pleasure of picking your own berries on our clean beautiful farm.
