You'll find our stall in Westbank, open from the first of July until the middle of November every year. Henry Paynter came from England with his parents in 1919 at the age of twelve. In 1926 he bought the land where our store is today, cleared the pines and planted fruit trees. In 1946 he married Sheila McKay who had grown up on an orchard in nearby Peachland. They had six children, thirteen grandchildren and one great grandchild. Henry's original orchard and other acreages purchased over the years supply the fruit stall with early cherries in July, followed by apricots, plums, peaches, pears, grapes, melons, and vegetables. It is open until late November for apples and pears. One of our specialties is for visitors to pick their own fruit when time and fruit maturity are right On a personal note: Henry has kept a daily diary for sixty years and checked to see when we began to operate a fruit stall. He found an item in the year 1951. It read "July 7th. Sold our first cherries on the side of the road." Henry has inspired family members with his own love of farming.http://www.payntersfruitmarket.ca/contact_usCome and meet some of our four generations of Okanagan orchardists. Henry Sr Paynter passed away at the age of 98 in 2005. Paynter's Fruit Market is now owned and operated by Henry and Sheila's granddaughter, Jennay Oliver.WE ARE OPEN!
